Welcome to GIBBIN HOUSE!

When I first started this blog about the misadventures of a nascent author, I had only a small novel under my belt, titled Gibbin House. The building that bears the name is a fictitious postwar era safe-house, as many might have existed, and the London home of my motley crew of exiles. I could not anticipate then the degree to which I would join its ranks of writers and artists, but since publishing my book in 2011, I have had the greatest privilege of opening my own art gallery and of exploring my love of the written word through visual poetry and paper sculptures. Yet much like the girl who first started blogging two years ago, I suspect I don't know what I'm doing half the time. As such, Gibbin House remains a refuge for ramblings...and on occasion a haven for little triumphs.

"LIT / LITE: Visual Poetry Installations by Carola Perla" Solo Show Launches at the Foundry Art Centre September 25, 2014!

ITS TIME FOR MY FIRST SOLO SHOW!!!

I will save my full comments about this experience for after the opening, I'm too nervous to go into it now...what I will say is that this show punctuates my life in more significant ways than I could have foreseen last year when I unexpectedly won the Best in Show at the Foundry Art Centre's "Paper Cuts" exhibit.  Life is a never-ending stream of surprises, lessons, and miracles, and if I ever stop believing that, then all I have to do is look back on this moment...I am so proud, grateful, and full of emotion, having sent off three year's worth of work - my entire collection - to this show, not sure if I sent enough light bulbs, wrote the correct measurements, made good enough work, and yet knowing that it doesn't matter, because this is all part of the journey...I will keep you posted on the results...in the meantime, here is the flyer for the show:
